Counting the Cost

There is a cost for everything we do. Whether it be monetary or other, there is always a cost to pay. Let me elaborate.

Every one of us is on a journey in life, to some end destination that we hope to achieve. And like everything, it is costing us, either time, money or other resource at our disposal. My question is, did you count the cost of this trip before you started the journey or did you, like many others, just jump in boots and all without much thought as to the cost? There is a price to pay for everything, and not all costs are monetary, some are spiritual, some are emotional and some are physical, but there is a price for it all. Take for example our health, when we were younger, we were bullet proof, we could eat what we wanted and never gained weight, we were quite healthy, never giving thought to what was going to happen further on down this road, once we hit our mid-twenties, things started changing, the waist line started expanding and our lifestyles became more sedentary but our eating habits never changed and our ability to convert food to energy also changed with the result that we put on a few extra pounds.

This sounds very familiar, and I see this on a daily basis, but what is the real cost here? The real cost is that our bodies start shutting down essential systems that keep us healthy and we can develop other issues as a result to the point we lose the ability to function healthily until surgical intervention is required. This state also affects other areas of our well-being, like our emotional and spiritual states, so the cost of an unhealthy lifestyle is not just an expanding waist line, it is more far reaching than we would like to think it is. Consider, for a moment, other topics in life where the cost is ignored to the detriment of others and yourself. What marital decisions have you made recently that will impact your relationship in the times to come, both positive and negative or what financial decisions have you made that will do the same.

Everything in life has a cost and we ought to take heed of these costs before making decisions that will negatively impact our lives and the lives of others. We need to realize that most of these consequences will only be felt at a later stage and will not necessarily impact our lives straight away, so bear it in mind when making them, Count the cost now, or pay the price later.

Be driven by love and fueled by desire

Shalom
