The past year has been a trying time for most, to say the least, but it has come and gone, and the new year is upon us. Time waits for no one, apparently, so it is time to move one. The problem is, is that some don’t move on, some linger in the past and hang around trying to figure out what happened or why it all went wrong or where it all went wrong, and during this time, days go by in another blur and before we know it the year is done, again.
Now, trying to figure things out is not necessarily a bad thing, as a matter of fact, it is mostly recommended, but there are times when we should leave things be and move on. Too often we want to try and figure out the why of things, like, why things went wrong, why people died or why bad things happened to seemingly good people, instead of accepting that things happen for a reason, and often the reason is that we do stupid things and win stupid prizes. I don’t want to labor the point but so let me get to the essence of this piece. We were often told not to burn our bridges, in the likely or unlikely event that we will have to go back over but what if these bridges lead us back to the destruction of the past events, what if these bridges lead us back to old ways? There is a great proverb that says “Like a dog returns to his own vomit, so a fool returns to his own folly (foolishness), I believe that some of these bridges lead us back to our foolishness and we are loathe to destroy them because we want to go back to our foolishness, instead of destroying any possibility of ever going back. This, however, requires a few things, fist of which is wisdom, real wisdom that is gained through spiritual growth, it requires sacrifice, giving up things on one level to get to better things on the next level, it requires discipline, focus, and strong desire to become healed and whole. This sometimes require that we not only burn the bridge, but blow it up to the point that it can never be rebuilt. This will ensure hat we can never go back to the foolishness of what we did before, but most of us do, because we like where we are despite the fact that it causes us, and others, pain and misery and heartache. We live there because we have no real desire to want to move on and because we are afraid to make sacrifices that could lead us to something better, we are comfortable knowing what we know and are afraid of the unknown,
It is time to take stock of where we are and what we are doing, it is time to grow and grow up and destroy those bridges that keep us from going forward … it is time.
Be driven by love and fueled by desire.
Shalom
